The FSSAI has given food businesses a final deadline to use pre-printed packaging materials. They must stop using these materials by December 31, 2023.
Food Business Operators (FBOs) had asked for more time to use non-compliant pre-printed packaging materials. The FSSAI has agreed to allow them to use these materials until the end of the year.
The FSSAI has also changed the fee for businesses that want to use pre-printed packaging materials. Central license holders need to pay Rs 30,000 plus GST, while state license holders need to pay Rs 12,000 plus GST. The fee should be paid through the FSSAI’s e-payment portal.
If a business needs to use pre-printed packaging materials due to changes like address, company name, or license number, they should follow the instructions given in orders issued on November 23, 2016. The fee will be as per the order issued on November 14, 2017.
Earlier, businesses could use pre-printed packaging materials for six months after paying a fee of Rs 6,000, according to notifications from the FSSAI.
