FSSAI and CBIC Launch New Digital System to Speed Up Food Import Clearance

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) have taken an important digital step to make food imports faster and more transparent. Both organisations have now connected their systems under the upgraded SWIFT 2.0 platform.

Smooth and Faster Import Processing

Earlier, FSSAI’s Food Import Clearance System (FICS) was linked to CBIC’s ICEGATE system under SWIFT 1.0. The new integration under SWIFT 2.0 builds on this foundation and aims to provide a more efficient process for importers. With this improvement, importers no longer need to navigate multiple platforms. Instead, they can now receive the required FSSAI No Objection Certificate (NOC) directly through the SWIFT Portal on ICEGATE.

Pilot Launch at Four Major Locations

The upgraded system has been introduced on a pilot basis at four important entry points across India. These include ICD Dadri (INDER6), ICD Star Track (INSTT6), ICD Albatross (INAPL6), and ICD Patparganj (INPPG6). Importers dealing with food consignments at these locations can now access faster and more streamlined clearance processes through the integrated SWIFT 2.0 system. This pilot phase will help test and refine the process before it is rolled out nationwide.

This digital integration supports the Government of India’s ongoing initiatives such as Ease of Doing Business and Digital India. By connecting systems and reducing manual steps, the process aims to cut down unnecessary paperwork and reduce dependency on physical interaction. After the pilot phase is successfully completed, SWIFT 2.0 integration will be extended to all major food import points across the country. This will help create a more seamless, technology-driven, and reliable food import system.

Commitment to Safe and Efficient Food Imports

FSSAI has stated that it remains dedicated to ensuring a secure, efficient, and transparent food import process. This initiative strengthens India’s food safety framework while also supporting smoother international trade.
