A few days following the reported death of a 15-year-old girl in Trichy from a soft drink and noodles, the food safety and drug administration department launched a strict campaign against food items being sold in Trichy city after their expiration date.
800 kg of food items that had past their expiration date were seized by a team lead by designated officer (DO) Dr. R Rameshbabu on Monday during an unexpected inspection at a well-known stockist in Trichy city.
Biscuits, foreign chocolates, and other culinary items were among the seized goods.
The food supplies that were seized were then dumped on Tuesday at the Ariyamangalam composite dumping yard. After the raid, the store was sealed.
The truth is that the group had gone to the vendor in order to obtain samples of a particular type of Korean noodles that the girl had made and eaten before she passed away.
They also obtained a sample of a soft drink brand from a seller on Monday.
Police sources looking into the child’s death claimed that because of her “craze” for K-pop culture, which they claimed encouraged its consumption, the girl habitually ate the same kind of noodles.
They said that she already had health issues.
“She already had four packets of noodles in her possession, and she cooked the last packet and consumed them on that fateful night,” Rameshbabu said to TOI on Tuesday.
He also underlined that operators of food businesses have received strong cautions from the agency not to store food items past their expiration dates.
Stressing the importance of parental vigilance when it comes to online food purchases, Dr MA Aleem, a health expert, said, “Parents should let their children consume only after checking the expiry date and the ingredients.”
