The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a nationwide recall of chocolate products made by Weaver Nut Company after it was discovered that some batches may contain undeclared milk allergens. This poses a serious health risk to people who are allergic or sensitive to milk.
What Products Are Affected?
These products were distributed nationwide and sold in various retail and grocery stores across the United States. The recall involves semi-sweet chocolate nonpareils (small chocolate discs coated with sugar seeds) that come in two varieties:
- Christmas-Colored Seeds
- Item Code: 47518
- Affected Lot Numbers: 204206, 204207, 204208, 204209, 204212, 224225
- White Seeds
- Item Code: D2645
- Affected Lot Numbers: 204214-RL, 204214, 204215, 224221, 224222, 224223, 135215, 135216, 135217, 135220, 135221, 145204, 145205-1, 145207-1, 145210-1
The recall was initiated after a wholesale customer complaint pointed out inconsistencies in the product received. Upon investigation, lab testing confirmed the presence of milk which was not listed on the label. This mislabeling could result in severe allergic reactions in people with milk allergies.
