The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given its most serious type of recall, called Class I, for a chocolate spread that may be unsafe to eat because it could have Salmonella bacteria. The chocolate spread was made by a Turkish company called Emek Gıda. During regular safety testing in a U.S. warehouse, 3 out of 24 jars tested positive for Salmonella.
Why People Are Concerned
This chocolate spread, often called Dubai chocolate, became very popular on TikTok in 2024 because of its creamy pistachio and kadayıf filling. The original version was made by a brand in Dubai called Fix Dessert Chocolatier, but other companies, including Emek Gıda, began selling their own versions. The one being recalled is one of those versions.
Which Products Are Affected
The chocolate spread was sold in World Market stores in 32 U.S. states between June 11 and July 9, 2025. The affected jars have the batch code 250401, which is printed on the top of the plastic lid. They also have a best-before date of April 1, 2027. So far, no one has become sick, but the FDA made the warning more serious on July 17, just a few days after the recall started on July 14. A Class I recall means the product could cause serious health problems or even death if eaten. Emek Gıda said the problem is only with this one batch sent to the United States, and that products sold in other countries are safe. The company is now checking everything from production to shipping and storage to find out what went wrong.
What Can Happen If Someone Eats It
According to the FDA, Salmonella is a harmful bacteria that can make people very sick. It can be especially dangerous for babies, older people, or anyone with a weak immune system. Even healthy people who get Salmonella can have fever, stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. In rare cases, the bacteria can spread to the blood and cause serious infections.
What the Company and FDA Are Saying
Emek Gıda said the problem might not only be from making the product but also from how it was stored or transported. The company is doing a full check of the whole supply process to prevent this from happening again. The FDA confirmed that it decided on the recall after its own tests found Salmonella in the product.
What You Should Do Now
If you bought the recalled chocolate spread, do not eat it. The FDA says you should return it to the store where you bought it for a full refund, or throw it away safely. The FDA and Emek Gıda are still checking the situation. More updates will be given if more products are found to be unsafe or if anyone becomes sick.
