CSIR-CFTRI Mysuru Appoints Dr. Giridhar Parvatam as New Director

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi, has appointed Dr. Giridhar Parvatam as the new Director of the CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru. He officially took charge on September 8, 2025.

Dr. Parvatam completed his M.Sc. in Botany (Microbiology specialization) and later earned a PhD in Botany (Microbiology specialization) from Kakatiya University, Telangana, in 1996. He joined CFTRI in 1999 as Scientist ‘B’ and has since worked in several key positions. He also serves as a professor at the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR).

Over the years, Dr. Parvatam has received many national and international awards, including the Professor V Puri Commemorative Medal (2021), Outstanding Scientist Award, Best Scientist Award – Food Technology (2015), and the Lalji Godhoo Smarak Nidhi Award. He is also a Fellow of several prestigious academies and scientific societies in India and abroad. With a strong research record, he has 217 publications, 8081 citations, 53 H-index, 141 i10-index, 9 patents, and has authored 2 books. He has guided 17 PhD students and 54 postgraduate dissertations. His research includes developing new food technologies, which have been licensed and commercialized.

Dr. Parvatam’s expertise lies in food science, microbiology, biotechnology, plant tissue culture, secondary metabolites, and advanced genomics. His studies have contributed to important areas like coffee and soybean genomics, as well as functional research in plant sciences and industrial applications.

With his new role as Director, Dr. Parvatam is expected to strengthen CFTRI’s research and innovations in food science and technology, taking forward its mission to contribute to the food industry and society at large.
