The government is actively working towards establishing the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) in every state.
Union Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan made this announcement during a press conference in New Delhi while discussing the upcoming World Food India – 2024 event scheduled for September in the capital city.
Minister Paswan emphasized the huge potential of the food processing sector, highlighting its ability to contribute to increased income for farmers and the realization of India’s development goals. He also highlighted the sector’s capacity to generate various employment opportunities.
Additionally, Minister Paswan expressed the importance of creating more food processing infrastructure in various regions to enable local processing of foods and products. He further guaranteed to address the wastage issue in the next five years, focusing on improving hygiene, quality checks, and meeting global standards.
During the event, Ravneet Singh Bittu, the Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, expressed that Indian cuisine is widely appreciated worldwide and indicated the importance of enhancing the food processing industries.
He highlighted the substantial growth in the country’s processed food exports over the past decade. The upcoming World Food India – 2024 aims to unite the global food processing industry and shows the vibrant Indian food culture, while also encouraging investments in the diverse food processing sector of the nation.
Secretary FPI, Smt. Anita Praveen, indicated the business oriented and inclusive nature of the upcoming WFI 2024 event, which is organized by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
She expressed her appreciation for the very large participation in the previous edition and extended a warm invitation to senior government officials, international investors, prominent business figures, and various stakeholders including food processors, equipment manufacturers, logistics and cold chain experts, technology providers, startups, and food retailers to attend the prestigious 4-day event.
Shri Paswan highlighted that the Ministry has been actively implementing key schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLIS), and Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) to support and sustain the growth of the food processing sector.
He also stressed the significance of enhancing hygiene, implementing quality checks, and adhering to global standards.
