Amul Strengthens Global Reach with Entry into Spain and EU Market

India’s leading dairy brand, Amul, has extended its international presence by launching its fresh milk in Spain and the European Union through a strategic partnership with Spain’s Cooperativa Ganadera del Valle de los Pedroches (COVAP). The initiative marks the brand’s first fresh milk launch in Europe and aims to serve growing global demand for quality dairy products.

In a formal launch event held at the Embassy of India in Madrid, dignitaries including H.E. Dinesh K Patnaik, Ambassador of India to Spain, and D. Fernando Heredia Noguera from the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, attended alongside Amul and COVAP leadership. The event signified Amul’s commitment to expanding its global footprint while celebrating a strong Indo-Spanish collaboration.

COVAP, founded in 1959 in Pozoblanco, Córdoba, is a major first-tier cooperative in Spain with over 2,000 farmer-members. Its state-of-the-art dairy facility processes more than 400 million litres of milk each year and exports to over 30 countries. As a key player in Andalusia’s agri-food sector, COVAP brings both experience and innovation to the partnership.

Planned Rollout Across Spain and Beyond

Amul Milk will initially be available in Madrid and Barcelona, with subsequent launches planned in Malaga, Valencia, Alicante, Seville, Córdoba, and Lisbon in Portugal. The partnership also sets the stage for future expansion into other European markets including Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.

Leadership Highlights the Significance of the Partnership

Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Amul, conveyed appreciation for the collaboration, calling it a milestone that aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of establishing Amul as a global brand. He noted that launching fresh milk in Europe during the United Nations’ International Year of Cooperatives underscores the value of global partnerships in the dairy sector.

COVAP President Ricardo Delgado Vizcaíno expressed enthusiasm about the alliance, highlighting how it merges COVAP’s technological expertise and milk quality with Amul’s growing international presence. He emphasized that the collaboration will benefit dairy farmers in both Spain and India.
