CFTRI Launches Nutrition Programme for Malnourished Children in Mysuru

The CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru, has launched a Nutrition Intervention Programme to address malnutrition among preschool children in Mysuru district. The program aims to improve nutritional outcomes through the distribution of scientifically formulated food kits.

CSR Partnership and Implementation

This initiative is supported by Bank Note Paper Mill India Pvt. Ltd. (BNPM) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. It is being implemented in collaboration with the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Service (DHFW) and the Directorate of Women and Child Development (DMCD).

Beneficiaries and Support Chain

A total of 600 malnourished preschool children have been identified, with 500 children set to receive monthly food kits over a period of six months. These kits, designed by CFTRI, are rich in protein, energy, and essential micronutrients like Iron, Vitamin A, and Zinc.

The impact of this intervention will be monitored through a detailed analysis of anthropometric and Research Center (MMCRI). This evaluation will help measure improvements in the children’s nutritional status.

Launch Event and Key Attendees

The program was launched on May 22, 2025, at CFTRI, in Mysuru with dignitaries including Thalikerappa (MD, BNPM), Dr. Sridevi Annapurna Singh (Director, CFTRI), B. Basavaraj (Deputy Director, DWCD), and Dr. Mohammad Shiraz Ahmed (DHFW) in attendance. Five children received food kits symbolically during the event.

Dr. Sridevi Annapurna Singh highlighted the success of similar CFTRI-led nutrition initiatives in Nanjangud and Purulia (West Bengal). She emphasized the need for collaboration with government bodies and CSR partners for sustainable impact Dr. Ahmed and Basavaraj underlined the importance of targeting children and pregnant women to break the cycle of malnutrition.
