Nestle Announces AI Investment at Australia KitKat Factory

Nestle announces its investment of $30 million at Campbellfield factory in Victoria. The objective of the investments was to improve the quality of wafer, enable innovation and increase the production capacity.

Andrew Lawrey, General Manager at Nestle, stated that the factory’s new AI technology will help them create a range of flavors, fillings, textures, and tastes. As part of the investment, they will also introduce a new wafer oven to improve wafer quality.

Moreover, he also mentioned that the weight of the 4-Finger bar will decrease from 45 grams to 42 grams because of the smaller mould size used with the new technology.

Nestlé plans to invest in automation to make factory jobs safer by reducing manual handling and to minimize food and packaging waste.

The first product which will be produced using the latest technology will be the Kitkat Neapolitan which was launched earlier this month. Featuring a mix of vanilla and strawberry flavors with a milk chocolate base, it will be available in Australia later this month and in New Zealand stores by February.

The Campbellfield factory not only produces KitKat but also other popular chocolate brands like Aero, Smarties, and Milky Bar.

This investment comes after a A$32 million upgrade last February at Nestlé’s Smithtown factory, where Milo is made. The upgrade introduced advanced manufacturing technology to boost production capacity.

Along with Milo, the Smithtown factory also produces powdered drinks like Nesquik and Nescafé coffee mixes.
