The State government of Andhra Pradesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Work Plan for 2024–25 worth of Rs 88.41 crore with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to establish cutting-edge laboratory infrastructure, test food samples, and raise awareness of food safety.
This is a significant step towards improving food safety in the state.In the presence of AP Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, FSSAI Executive Director Inoshi Sharma, AP Food Safety Commissioner C. Hari Kiran, and Chief Executive Officer G. Kamalavardhan Rao signed the MoU.
Highlights of MoU
FSSAI CEO Rao assured full support to Andhra Pradesh. According to the MoU, at a cost of Rs 20 crore each, integrated food labs will be established in Tirumala and Kurnool.
At a cost of Rs 7.5 crore each, Eluru and Ongole will get basic food testing labs created.
Furthermore, a sum of Rs 12 crore has been set aside for the collection and analysis of food samples, and another Rs 11 crore has been dedicated for public education on food safety regulations.
According to the MoU, 22 labs would be built up using a turnkey manner at a cost of Rs 15 crore in addition to the four mobile food testing labs that are now in place.
The Health Minister emphasized the value of food safety at the meeting, claiming that the previous government neglected it.
By 2025, he claimed, the State government will have Andhra Pradesh ranked in the top five states in the Food Safety Index.
According to FSSAI CEO G Kamala Vardhan Rao, a cooperative strategy will be employed to guarantee Andhra Pradesh’s continued support going forward.
