Biodegradable plates have been created by the Biodegradable Cutlery Research and Innovation Centre, which was established at the CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) in Mysuru as part of the CSIR project “SHREE ANNA – the Millet Mission.”
Reason Behind CSIR-CFTRI Innovation
The CSIR-CFTRI effort seeks to capitalize on the enormous potential of millet processing by products and wastes while addressing the environmental issues caused by plastic waste.
The facility houses the production, pre-processing, and analytical tools needed to create biodegradable cutlery and tableware.
Trial of Plates
Guests were served high tea on biodegradable plates as part of CFTRI’s 75th Foundation Day celebrations.
In order to enable customers to savor their meals and then eat the utensils afterwards, researchers are also investigating the creation of edible utensils.
Innovative Team Behind The Project
Senior Principal Scientist Ashitosh A. Inamdar is in charge of the project, while Saravanan M. and Suresh D. Sakhare from the CFTRI’s flour milling, baking, and confectionery technologies department are also involved.
Probiotic carrot nectar, the creation of a gluten-free bread premix, the multigrain waffle process, instant masala tea premix, and ethylene scavenger technology are among the technologies that were made public.
