Recently, restaurants in Hyderabad’s Khairatabad area were examined by a task group led by Telangana’s Commissioner of Food Safety.
In three of them, artificial food coloring was discovered in addition to other violations. The officials visited Hotel Amrutha Castle on September 25, 2024.
Violations at Hotel Amrutha Castle
Live cockroaches were discovered in the kitchen and store sections of Hotel Amrutha Castle, and artificial food coloring that was possibly used in Chinese cuisine was disposed of there.
The establishment neglected to keep track of refrigerator temperatures, follow First In, First Out (FIFO) procedures, and make sure that food handlers were wearing the appropriate hygienic clothing.
According to a release, cobwebs could be observed above the crockery storage and the floor was patchy with water stagnation.
Violations at Three Cheers Restaurant
The officials visited Three Cheers Restaurant in Khairatabad on the same day. The FSSAI License document was not prominently displayed by the institution.
Refrigerator temperature logs have not been kept up to date. There were no medical fitness certifications or pest control records available.
Dustbins were left open and lacked proper lids. The unhygienic kitchen table further added to the concerns.
Violations at Poorna Restaurant
At Poorna Restaurant, there were also found to be hygiene infractions, including the failure to display the FSSAI licence, the absence of medical fitness and pest control records, and an unclean refrigerator that contained unlabeled and unprotected food.
Insects might enter since there were no insect-proof screens on the windows or doors.
According to a department release, rotten tomatoes and ginger were found and discarded.
The officials noted that the food handlers were not wearing hair caps, aprons and gloves.
These violations raises the food safety concerns prevailing in the restaurant.
