Godrej Agrovet Limited is setting up an Oil Palm Processing Milling unit in Dhalai, Tripura. To help farmers, they will also establish a Samadhan center and a research and development center.
In Dhalai, GAVL already operates a nursery with a capacity of 3 lakh saplings per year, with plans to increase this to 5 lakh annually.
With the launch of the National Mission on Edible Oil – Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) in August 2021, the Tripura government has taken the initiative to plant palm trees on at least 7,000 hectares of land.
Tripura’s Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Ratan Lal Nath, highlighted the government’s dedication to building an environment that is beneficial to oil palm growers.
He was excited about the collaboration with GAVL, pointing out that the new processing mill will ease logistical problems allowing farmers to sell their produce within the state.
Nath further emphasized how crucial the Samadhan Center is to helping both new and established oil palm growers.
“ We are grateful to the Tripura government for their whole-hearted support in our common mission of uplifting oil palm farmers. The conducive eco-system being created by them is truly encouraging”, stated Balram Singh Yadav, Managing Director of Godrej Agrovet Limited.
Yadav underlined that Tripura’s oil palm growers as well as the larger agriculture industry will greatly benefit from GAVL’s experience and state assistance.
