The Uttarakhand government suspended manufacturing licenses for 14 Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali products, including 13 from its subsidiary Divya Yoga Pharmacy, due to misleading advertisements.
This decision is being made as there is increasing attention on misleading claims about traditional Ayurvedic medicines being sold by Yoga Guru Ramdev.
The decision is being taken as Ramdev’s businesses are facing more legal challenges and there are concerns about the questionable advertising methods being used.
The Uttarakhand State Licensing Authority announced on April 27 that a criminal complaint has been submitted against Patanjali Ayurved, along with its founders Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna. The complaint declares a violation of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act.
The Authority has suspended licenses for various products including Swasari Gold, Swasari Vati, Swasari Pravahi, Swasari Avaleh, Mukta Vati Extra Power, BP Grit, Lipidom, Livamrit Advance, Livogrit, Eyegrit Gold, and more. This action was taken under Rule 159(1) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945.
Reports indicate that the Court was not satisfied with Patanjali’s public apology and requested the company to issue another apology. Additionally, the Court granted exception to Patanjali founder Yoga guru Ramdev and company director Balkrishan.
The form has previously criticized the drug control administration of Uttarakhand for its failure to take action against the deceptive advertisements placed by Patanjali Ayurved. These advertisements are believed to violate the Drugs and Other Magical Remedies Act, of 1954.
Both Ramdev and Balakrishna were ordered by the Supreme Court to appear in person before the bench.
