About G B PANT UNIVERSITY
G. B. Pant University of Agriculture, also known as Pantnagar University, is the first agricultural university in India. It was inaugurated by Jawahar Lal Nehru on 17 November 1960 as the “Uttar Pradesh Agricultural University”.
The University campus at Pantnagar is spread over an area of 12,661 acres (51.24 km2) which makes it the second-largest university in the world, in terms of contiguous area. Before 2002, the university owned16,000-acre (65 km2), out of which 3,339-acre (13.51 km2) was transferred to the State Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand (SIDCUL) for developing an Integrated Industrial estate thus leaving 12,661-acre (51.24 km2) with the university. The remaining land was transferred to other industries, railways, airports etc.
