Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed all state government departments to stop using plastic water bottles and instead switch to eco friendly options in offices and official functions.
Push for Eco Friendly Practices
In a circular issued on October 28, the CM reminded all departments of the state’s goal to protect the environment by reducing plastic use. He said that earlier instructions to avoid plastic bottles must now be strictly followed in all government offices and meetings across Karnataka. Siddaramaiah stated, steps must be taken to completely replace plastic bottles with sustainable alternatives to promote environmental responsibility.
Support for Local Brand Nandini
Along with promoting green practices, the Chief Minister also directed all departments to use only Nandini products which are produced by the government owned Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) in official events and meetings, including those held at the Vidhana Soudha (Secretariat). This move aims to support local farmers and boost the state’s dairy sector while encouraging government employees to rely on homegrown brands.
Step Toward Sustainable Governance
The initiative reflects the state government’s broader mission to reduce plastic waste, promote sustainable practices, and strengthen local industries. By replacing plastic bottles and using Nandini products, Karnataka hopes to set an example for other states in adopting environmentally friendly and locally supportive policies.
