Mother Dairy is a company owned by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), has announced plans to set up a new milk processing plant in Jamalpur, Munger district, Bihar. The project will involve an investment of around ₹250 crore and is expected to be ready in two years.
The groundbreaking ceremony (Bhoomi Pujan) for the new plant was held on Saturday. It was attended by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lallan Singh), Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, and NDDB Chairman Meenesh Shah.

Officials said that Munger’s rich milk producing areas, located near the Ganga River, will ensure a steady milk supply to the plant. This project will not only increase Mother Dairy’s production capacity but also benefit local farmers by giving them better prices for their milk.

At the beginning, the Jamalpur plant will produce milk, yogurt, and cheese. Later, Mother Dairy plans to expand into more value added dairy products such as butter, ice cream, and paneer, depending on market demand.
This project is part of Mother Dairy’s broader mission to strengthen the dairy sector and support rural livelihoods by connecting farmers directly to organized markets.

The Jamalpur facility will be Mother Dairy’s 10th processing plant in India. The company already runs nine plants located in Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pilkhuwa, Etawah, Junagadh, Kutch, Tirupati, and Motihari.
Founded in 1974 during Operation Flood, Mother Dairy has been a key player in India’s White Revolution, helping the country become one of the largest milk producers in the world. With this new plant, it aims to expand its reach and promote sustainable dairy growth in eastern India.
