The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) which markets dairy products under the popular Nandini brand, is gearing up to expand its product portfolio. The cooperative plans to introduce lactose free milk, buffalo milk, and protein rich milk, catering to changing consumer preferences and rising market competition.
Lactose Free Milk for Sensitive Consumers
Lactose free milk is a fast growing segment, is in demand among consumers with lactose intolerance. With increasing awareness about digestive health, KMF sees this as a key growth area. The new variant is currently in the trial stage and is expected to hit the shelves by the end of September. Buffalo milk known for its rich texture and higher fat content, is especially popular in North Karnataka. KMF officials have revealed plans to procure buffalo milk in large quantities to meet the growing demand in the region. This move will also allow the brand to compete with private dairy players offering premium varieties.
Focus on Protein Rich Options
The popularity of protein-based diets, especially among youngsters and fitness enthusiasts, has prompted KMF to explore protein-rich milk and protein shakes. According to KMF Managing Director Shivaswamy B, these products aim to serve the health-conscious segment seeking nutritious beverages.
Expanding Into Sugar Free Sweets and Savouries
To diversify beyond milk, KMF is also planning to launch sugar-free sweets targeting consumers who prefer healthier indulgences. In addition, the research wing of KMF is developing at least 10 varieties of savouries, which are expected to roll out soon.
All the new products lactose free milk, buffalo milk, protein rich milk, sugar free sweets, and savouries are currently in trial production. If successful, they will be introduced in the market by September end, further strengthening Nandini’s presence in the competitive dairy and food sector.
