Food Quality Testing Labs in Visakhapatnam and Tirumala to Start Next Month

The Andhra Pradesh government is setting up five food quality testing laboratories across the state. Out of these, the labs in Visakhapatnam and Tirumala are expected to begin operations by next month. The aim is to ensure food safety and protect people’s health, especially the large number of devotees visiting Tirumala.

The state has spent Rs 86 crore on this project. These labs will have advanced machines to test different types of food samples. Until now, food samples had to be sent to neighboring states for testing. With these new labs, testing can be done locally and faster.

Tirumala laboratory details

The lab in Tirumala is being set up in a 12,000 sq. ft. building near the flour mill. Equipment worth Rs 19 crore is being installed. The lab will run 24/7 with trained staff and will test all kinds of food samples. This step comes after earlier cases of food adulteration that worried devotees.

Visakhapatnam laboratory progress

The Visakhapatnam food testing lab is also moving quickly towards completion. Basic equipment is already in place, and the final installation of remaining machines will be finished soon. The lab is expected to be operational by the end of next month.

Upgrades in Ongole and Eluru

Apart from these two labs, the government is also upgrading the public health labs in Ongole and Eluru with modern equipment. Around Rs 6.5 crore has been sanctioned for each of them, and purchase orders for equipment have already been issued.

State-level food laboratories are also being developed in Guntur, Tirupati, and Kurnool. The existing regional lab in Kurnool will be upgraded, and a new building will be built to support advanced testing.

Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said that the government is giving top priority to the health and well-being of its citizens. The new food labs will help prevent adulteration and ensure safe food for people across Andhra Pradesh.
