Government Approves Food Processing Park at Kunnukara Panchayat

Kochi: The state government has given approval to set up a food processing park at Kunnukara grama panchayat in Kalamassery constituency. The park will come up on 37.5 acres of land. Industries Minister P. Rajeeve said the project will create new opportunities for farmers by helping them get better value and market access for their crops.

Announcement During Farmers’ Day

The minister made the announcement while inaugurating Farmers’ Day celebrations organized by Alangad Krishi Bhavan at Kottappuram KEMH School. He also informed that the LuLu Group will invest about  Rs. 500 crore to build a food processing facility on the HMT campus in Kalamassery.

According to Rajeeve, the new projects will link farm produce with modern processing and value-addition facilities. This will increase farmers’ income and make the state’s agricultural economy stronger.

Successful Farming Revival in Kalamassery

The minister highlighted that efforts to revive farming in Kalamassery have worked well. Paddy cultivation has restarted on more than 1,000 acres, and farmers are now producing items like jaggery, arrowroot powder, and sweet potato powder. These products are already reaching the local market.

Farm to Home Scheme

Rajeeve also announced the launch of the Farm to Home scheme this month. The scheme will deliver fresh vegetables and other farm products directly to households. He added that this ensures farmers get fair prices, and consumers get safe, fresh produce at their doorstep.

Jobs and Private Investment

Officials from Kunnukara panchayat said the upcoming food processing park will bring in private investments and large scale employment opportunities. It will also improve storage, processing, and distribution facilities for different crops, giving farmers more stability against sudden market changes.

The minister added that the combined impact of the park and other farming initiatives will rebuild farmers’ confidence and make agriculture a more sustainable livelihood in the region. The inauguration event was attended by local representatives, government officials, and farmers.
