MoFPI Accelerates Food Processing Growth with 1,601 Projects and Rs. 6,411 Crore Support Under PMKSY

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is working hard to improve India’s food sector. By June 2025, it has approved 1,601 projects under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), with Rs. 6,411 crore given as financial help. These projects aim to reduce food wastage, improve storage, and help farmers earn better profits.

Out of the 1,601 projects, 1,134 are for building better infrastructure like Mega Food Parks (41 projects) and Cold Chain systems (395 projects). These help in storing, processing, and transporting food without spoilage, especially fruits, vegetables, dairy, and meat products.

Helping Food Businesses

Under the PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, the government has approved over 1.44 lakh small projects across India. These help small food businesses get training, branding support, and money to grow. One good example is Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh, which is known for bananas. It has been selected as a Banana Cluster under PMKSY and also as a One District One Product (ODOP) area under PMFME. Here, 261 banana-related projects have been approved to boost local banana processing and sales.

To help big food companies grow and export more, the government is running the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI). So far, 170 projects have been approved under this scheme. With a budget of ₹10,900 crore, this scheme supports large-scale manufacturing from 2021 to 2027.

Taking Indian Food to the World

To attract foreign investment, MoFPI has also organized World Food India in 2017, 2023, and 2024. These events bring global companies and investors to India, showing them the country’s growing food industry. With these schemes, the government is building better infrastructure, supporting small and large businesses, and creating jobs in villages. These efforts are helping Indian food products reach global markets while reducing food waste and increasing farmers’ incomes.
