FSSAI to Conduct Free Training Camp for Street Food Vendors in Coimbatore

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) will organize a special registration and training camp in Coimbatore on June 24, 2025, aimed at supporting street food vendors in complying with food safety norms. The event is designed to help vendors register with the food regulator and promote hygiene and safety practices among informal food business operators.

FSSAI urges all roadside eatery operators and street vendors to take advantage of this opportunity to formalize their businesses, gain valuable food safety knowledge, and undergo a free health screening. This initiative supports safer street food and promotes consumer confidence in local food systems.

  • Venue: Suguna Auditorium, Avinashi Road, Coimbatore
  • Documents Required: Aadhaar card and a passport-size photograph

Free Registration and Training

According to T. Anuradha, FSSAI Designated Officer for Coimbatore, the ₹100 registration fee has been waived for street vendors as part of this initiative. In addition to registration, a Food Safety Training and Certification (FOSTAC) session will be conducted to educate vendors about food safety standards, proper food handling, and hygiene practices.

Medical Check-up for Food Handlers

As a health safeguard, the camp will also offer a free medical check-up for all food handlers attending the event. This will help ensure that food vendors are medically fit to handle and serve food, contributing to safer street food experiences for the public.

Who Should Attend

The FSSAI has mandated registration for food business operators with an annual turnover below ₹12 lakh, while those exceeding this limit must obtain a formal licence. Street food vendors and small food businesses operating without registration are encouraged to participate.
